Chondroitin

What there any negative side effects from taking chondroitin over a long period of time? I am taking a combination of glucosamine and chondroitin, but was told that the glucosamine was OK, but that the chondroitin can build up in the body and cause negative side effects.

According to the Professional's Handbook of Complimentary and Alternative 1999 (published by Springhouse), chondroitin should not be used by people taking anticoagulants such as heparin or aspirin because it increases the risk of internal bleeding. However, at the time of publishing, there have been no reports of bleeding as a result of Chondroitin Sulfate use in humans. The most common side effects associated with the use of this supplement are indigestion, headache, nausea, motor uneasiness and euphoria.
