Consumer Review: I'm Using Creatine For The First Time. Here Are My Results So Far.

A few weeks ago, I was helping a friend move and she had a bottle of Weider's Creatine Monohydrate. She was using it for rowing competition but gave up its use. I don't think she used it seriously. She let me have the bottle. I started taking it without knowing anything about it. A few days ago, a friend warned me of hearing of the adverse effects of taking Creatine.

Today is the third time in the gym since the beginning of summer and taking Creatine. I'm not in great shape but I'm not in bad shape either. So far, the workouts have been what I expected, tough. This is due to my workout hiatus. I'm on my fourth day of the loading phase. The response has been normal, no appreciable gains in lifting but I do have the motivation to lift. That's psychological from knowing I'm taking a supplement.

I've just returned from the gym and decided to check the internet for studies and I found this web page chock full of personal testimonies of Creatine use, both good and bad. After reading for an hour, I'm not so sure of continuing it's use. So far, I've noticed that right after taking a dose, I feel slightly light headed. I'm also drinking lots more water than usual and going to the rest room quite often. I used to bodybuild some years ago and while taking Hotstuff and some softgel carbo supplements, I had similar thirst increases. I just remembering being more thirsty on the Hotstuff than on the Creatine.

I've yet to notice any strength benefits and I'm still sore from working out. However, it's still early. Since the bottle is almost empty, I'll probably use Creatine until the supply runs out. Look for part II in the future.

Response #1

I believe the loading phase to be a marketing ploy. It is reasonable to increase the dosage at first, but I do not believe the liver can handle 16 times the normal dose in a day for four straight days. I noticed results in strength and weight increases after about 3 weeks of use. And as a comparison I go 1 week every six without Creatine. After 6 months I gained 15-20 lean mass (I'm sure some was water weight) but I know the results were due to the training because I suffered a shoulder injury and lost about 10-15 pounds in 6 weeks. I am concerned about long term effects, but in my experience I have not noticed anything as of yet.
