Consumer Review: After About A Month On Creatine, I Can Tell You It's Working For This Hard Gainer.

This site has been a great resource in my supplemental decisions so I've decided to post my own experiences.

I'm 5'5" - 5'6" and weigh 146 lbs currently with 4.1% body fat. I've never maxxed out on the bench which seems to be a standard gauge of strength, but I'd wager it's around 260+ because I can bench 225 x 6 with strict form and control.

I started creatine on 11-15-99. Prior to taking it, I've already consumed around a gallon of bottled water a day and continue to do so, hence thus far (12-20-99) I've not noticed the cramps or dehydration that others have mentioned.

I have experienced irregular heart beats which I've never had b4 when I started using it. But I haven't had an occurrence in over 3 weeks now. I take the Met-Rx brand of creatine and followed the instructions on the bottle for the loading phase, 10g/day for 5 days and 5g after workouts thereafter.

In addition to creatine I take Designer Protein, St. John's Wort, a multivitamin, calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin E. I took a bottle of Twinlab's Amino Fuel but stopped it after experiencing the irregular heartbeats I mentioned above, I'm still not sure what the cause of that was, but I've continued using creatine and not taking amino acid tablets and my heart seems fine if that's any indicator.

I have noticed strength, endurance, and weight gains; I'm a hard gainer. In 1997 I weighed 110 lbs. In terms of acne, I did break out about 1.5 weeks after using it, I'm not quick to jump to a correlation, but now my complexion is near perfect some 4 weeks into using it. This is partly because of Accutane. Personally I think sleep is the #1 factor in terms of rosacea but that's my own subjective opinion.

I've not noticed any mood changes or swings nor have my friends. I binge drink on the weekends when I go clubbing, but I become very merry and am not the prone to become violent type.

So in conclusion, I'd say creatine works though I've only used it for approximately a month. My plan is to cycle it for 8 weeks on, 4 weeks off to give my body a break. I'll repost with my experiences when I cycle off it.

I hope someone can extrapolate something beneficial out of this for their own use.

Response #1

I've been taking Amino Fuel about 2 months and I have not noticed any irregular heart beat. I have a gym class where we consistently wear heart monitors to keep track of our heart beat during work outs and it seems to be very normal. But just to let you know, I only weight about 127 so I took about 2 pills less per day because I was afraid it would have a greater affect on me because of my body weight. Also, I'm aware that creatine is mostly mass gainer so if you're trying to lost weight, I advise you to not use creatine.
