Consumer Review: I Ended Up In The Hospital With Intense Kidney Pain After Taking Creatine.

I started taking creatine a few years ago and had wonderful results. I gained muscle mass, strength and endurance. However after 6 months of taking it I was awaken one morning after 4 hours sleep with the most intense pain in my left kidney. I honestly thought I was going to die before I got to the hospital. I thank god I lived only 1 mile from the E.R. After almost passing out from pain in the emergency room I was immediately taken into a room and the doctor was there no more than 10 seconds later. He ordered 2, YES 2 syringes full of pain meds. I think I was injected with morphine, but nonetheless after the 2nd syringe was in my vein and half pumped into me I passed out on the nurses shoulder. She laid me back on the bed and I was in la la land for hours to come. I'd say about 4 hours after it all started I passed a kidney stone.

Now I read all the postings on this site and no one else has written about this as a possible side effect of creatine but god as my witness, as I am sitting here typing this I am having kidney pains and have had them ever since. I made an appointment to see my regular doctor after this and he told me to STOP taking creatine and sooner or later the pains will stop. That was 1 1/2 years ago and I'm still having pain time to time.

Now, one reason I was told not to take it anymore was the fact that I work as a welder and sweat more than the average person would. Even though I was drinking close to 2 gallons of water and Gatorade, I wasn't urinating any but sweating it out instead. This, I believe, is the probable reason this happened. The only problem that I face now is the decision to take it again or not. It works better than anything I've tried and I've tried about everything I could. I wish anyone who uses Creatine that they NEVER feel the pain I did and have to walk in the steps I have. My 2 cents worth, take it or leave it!

I have been taking creatine on and off for over a year . I do have a lingering ache in my kidney or lower back. I have talked to several people that lift and use creatine, and none of them had this problem. I thought it might be from the hydroxycut or something else I was taking, or maybe I'm doing some exercises improperly, but I'm still not sure.
