Consumer Review: Creatine Has Helped My Friend Build Muscle, But It Also Makes Him Dizzy And Gives Him Constant Headaches.

A very dear friend of mine has currently started taking Creatine to build up his muscle mass. It is true that he has built up more since he started taking it and he can work out longer than he could before. But, on the down side, he has constant headaches and is dizzy a lot of the time after taking it. I have done a lot of research on Creatine because I am worried about my friend. He hasn't been taking it that long and is already experiencing side effects. I understand that many people have taken it for a long time and had no side effects, but those people should count themselves lucky. Other than my friend and my research, I have no basis for what I say, but I would worry if you are taking Creatine and are experiencing any kind of side effect. It is possible to build muscle on your own, without Creatine's help. I am doing it myself, actually. Please, take possible side effects into consideration before you take it and do consult a doctor. Take care of your body, it's the only one you will ever have.

I am experiencing headaches that began just as soon as I started taking creatine. I am (today) going to quit and see if the headaches go away. I wonder what it is that causes the headaches. Is it high BP, water retention?

Response #2

I am interested to know if the headaches come on for no reason at all, or during exertion. My boyfriend is taking creatine and has started having headaches when he exerts himself. If we can find out about other people's experiences, maybe we can figure out what to do.

I have been using creatine for 2 years, and from my experience, I have found that it does work if used correctly. Just recently I have been getting dizzy spells, but only after working out. What I have found is that you must eat something within an hour after lifting, and drink plenty of water during the day (at least a gallon). You should also have a good diet when working out. Eat 4-5 times daily, especially after your workout when your body needs to replenish itself. If symptoms occur, you should stop using or consult a doctor.

Yes, Creatine is giving my husband SEVERE headaches and making him dizzy to the point he has to sit down. We know that it has to be from the creatine, because he does not take or eat anything 1 hour before or after he takes it, nor does he work out until 1 hour after. He hasn't stopped taking it, but I wish he would because now he has to lay down from his severe headaches. Tell me what you think?
