Consumer Review: After My Second Cycle Of Creatine, I Got A Strange Rash All Over My Body.

This was my second time using the same creatine, with which I gained about 10 pounds in about a month. Anyway, I started a heavier cycle this time (I did my loading phase and 10 grams a day thereafter--5g before workout, 5g after). I was also on the cycle longer, maybe a month and a half or two. I began to notice red marks all over my body. They were tiny red marks that were scaly and peeling in the middle. I just wanted everyone to know what a possible side effect was.

This happened to me as well. I was on my first cycle one month in at 10g for 3 days loading, then 3g daily. I just recently got the same "rash."

Response #2

I don't know if it's any big deal, but I am a freshman in OSU who is winding down the last quarter of the year. I have just recently finished my loading phase and am currently taking about seven grams per day. I don't know if you could call it a rash, but I noticed that the back of my ear and the area around it was turning red. It happened on the second day of loading, but it went away the next day. I don't know if it's anything related to what you said...I just wanted to put in my experience.

Response #3

I can't confirm that this is related to creatine use, but about the time I started using creatine, I began to have intensely itchy skin, mainly on my arms, hands, legs, abdomen, chest, buttocks, lower back, and even in the genital area. This was accompanied by red spots, which seemed to be more prominent immediately after showering. My dermatologist(s) assured me it was just dry skin, but no amount of moisturizing or liquid intake seems to help much.

I supplemented with creatine (recommended dosage) for 4 months straight. In the 3rd month I got a case of shingles, but I don't know if this was related. (I'm 42.) After my 4 months of supplementation, I stopped for awhile. About a month or so later, my itching stopped for a few days. I at first attributed this to my cessation of caffeine consumption. But when the itch returned a week later, I figured it had nothing to do with caffeine, since I had not had any. Only later did I realize that the itch had returned about the time I restarted creatine use. I'm going to lay off creatine for awhile and see if my skin condition improves. The itch is making me go out of my mind! I scratch so much I draw blood.
