Creatine

Okay, I'll add my experience to the creatine craziness. I've been doing creatine off-and-on for about 4 years. I've NEVER had a problem. I'm 31 years old and have had 2 physicals in that time period and all my vitals checked out perfectly. My MD knows I take LOTS of supplements and is supportive and cool about it. He said creatine definitely works, but that drinking plenty of water and not overdosing is key--no more than 6 grams a day for me (I weigh 175).
I also see a very well known and respected ND (Naturopathic Doctor)
every few years just to make sure all my supplements (vitamins,
creatine, whey, etc.) are in balance and safe. He had nothing
negative to say about creatine for ME, and only confirmed what
my MD said about water and "overdosing." This is a guy
that REALLY knows his stuff when it comes to supplementation--much
more than your average MD. Also, my brother is a pharmacist AND
weightlifter. He also saw no reason that creatine would harm someone
who is RESPONSIBLE with it.
So, my take is that creatine is "generally" fine AND effective for most people in correct dosages and when drinking plenty of water. If you have certain health problems, especially with your liver or kidneys, it may bring those problems to light.
So, if you take creatine, ask your doctor first, keep the dose SANE, drink LOTS of water, and cycle it every few months too. If you notice problems, QUIT and see your doctor again.
My 2 cents.
