Consumer Review: I Started Using Creatine Monohydrate 5 Months Ago And Have Been Getting Bad Indigestion And Heart Burn.

I am 18 years old. I have been lifting now for about three years and just started using creatine monohydrate about 5 months ago. I have noticed that I have been getting bad indigestion and heartburn. I was wondering if this is a result of my using creatine as a diet supplement? Are there any other side effects you know about?

Response #1

One side effect that I can say I'm pretty sure was directly attributable to creatine usage was that I had severe muscle cramping with my ab muscles. They cramped so much that it hurt me to straighten my torso -- I had to rub my abs to work the cramps out. I wasn't working my abs any more/less than normal. A couple of my ab muscles cramped up so much they actually looked like something was going to burst out of my stomach (like the "Alien" movie!!). The cramping started about a week after I started on creatine -- and I had never had this happen to me before. The cramping was less severe over a period of about 2-3 months (it maybe happened about 30-40 times) and I have not had this since (even though I am still using creatine).

Response #2

I too have had some problems with heart burn after three short cycles of creatine. I was experiencing some shortness of breath as well as heartburn and I was diagnosed with Acid-Reflux. I definitely feel this was a result of creatine, but there is no way to be sure. Just get checked out by a doctor because now I take Prilosec and I'm feeling much better.
