Question: Can Water Retention Due To Menstruation Counteract Weight Loss Generated By Diet Pills?

I am a 27 year old woman. I have been taking diet pills for 6 days. During those 6 days I lost 6 pounds. I use to weigh 190 now I weigh 183, thanks to the diet pills. Today, I weighed myself and I weighed 188. Can It be that I have retained water since the day of my menstruation is very close. By the way, yesterday I weight 183 and today I am 188. I am confused and depressed answer me please!

I don't know the answer to this question but I do the same thing. I have been taking hydroxycut for around 2 weeks now and on the first week seemed to do really well. I dropped 8lbs like that, but now I've gained 5lbs back. It seems as though my weight bounces up and down more than a ball. I would love a response to this question. I have lost and gained as much as 7lbs in one day!!! It must be water gain but...I don't know either.

#1: Sounds like you've been losing water weight - a natural part of this process, both because you're a woman (we DO tend to hold onto that water!), and because you're just starting out. As you begin to exercise and learn to eat well, you'll find that water weight tends to drop off more rapidly than actual fat. Most importantly, just keep exercising, because consistency is the actual trigger to all this. If you do that, everything else will follow...I don't even think about it any more; I wake up, put on my walking stuff before I'm even awake, and I'm out the door before my brain catches on! Then it becomes habit. Then it starts to actually feel good, afterward, at least...especially when my smaller clothes fit and I like the positive changes I see in my body and my attitude.

I tend not to weigh myself the week before my cycle, and for a few days after. Any fluctuations in weight due to water retention -- and they are HUGE -- make me crazy, and I just don't do that to myself anymore. Also, weighing every day makes a lot of women nuts. Weight Watchers -- an excellent program -- has members weigh weekly, maybe to avoid water-retention weight-loss/gain-disappointment, but also because then you see big losses and avoid obsession. Mostly I go by how my clothes fit now, but I know how positive it can be to watch pounds come off when you're starting out.

Just do what feels comfortable, but forget about weighing before and during your cycle: it will only frustrate you, and water-retention is a normal event for women.

And oh! I almost forgot! Hormonal changes seem to cause women to want certain kinds of foods during their cycle, like carbohydrates.

Good luck,
Stephanie
