Ginkgo Biloba

Okay, I have seen the studies of the amazing herb Ginkgo Biloba. Now what are the pitfalls? I had a friend who was taking this product and, for awhile, his memory improved greatly. But then he said he was getting a lot of headaches, so he discontinued this product. I have seen all the good, is there any bad?

As far as I know, Gingko increases the oxygen your body absorbs from your blood. The idea that this helps memory specifically is probably psychosomatic, but essentially everything works better, above the neck and below. Now the headaches - well again, I have no medical documentation, but I seem to remember a hangover is when normal amounts of oxygen return to those brain cells that were soaked in martinis the night before. If too-quick an increase in oxygen can cause headaches, your friend might be taking too large a dose in the a.m. rather than spreading them throughout the day. If he's not fussing with the dosage, eating something with each pill should, theoretically, slow down the absorption to something his head would be happier with.

I started taking ginkgo biloba and found it kept me awake and very hyper.
