Spirulina

I have been consuming spirulina for twenty years. I take four to twelve capsules daily and also make spirulina smoothies or eat spirulina/bee pollen energy bars. I am a 45 year old athlete, and attribute my continued health and performance, in part, to eating spirulina on a regular basis. My sport is rock climbing. I climb regularly with much younger people, even high schoolers.
Since spirulina is an easily digestible protein, I feel it helps me to maintain muscle mass. As far as people reporting dizziness from spirulina, I do not believe that this is an allergic reaction. Instead, I would guess that this is a "cleansing" effect. Spirulina is very high in chlorophyll and other plant type pigments which have a cleansing action on the body. Spirulina should be introduced to the diet slowly, especially if you have been eating a typical American diet. Many people experience an increase in bowel movements from spirulina due to the cleansing effect of this green food!
