St. John's Wort

I was taking anti-depressants for 6 months and had terrible side
effects, including: nearly constant nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite,
skin sensitivity, loss of libido, and a general feeling of malaise
which replaced the depression. With St. John's Wort I have noticed
no side effects and have been feeling good for over a year. I take
the standardized extract (300mg) which is mixed with the whole herb
so that I can benefit from anything in the St. J's that might have
a synergistic effect with the hypericin. I take 3 capsule a day,
4 gave me the same skin sensitivity that prescription meds did.

I was very happy to read of your success through coming off of
antidepressants and replacing them with Saint John's Wort. What
a relief it must have been to be free of all those terrible side
effects and to feel good by just taking a herb! However, I would
like to just point out that Saint John's Wort has been seen to help
individuals with 'mild' to 'moderate' depression only. For those
who are suffering from a 'major depression' it is still wise to
consult a medical practitioner and consider the pathway of an orthodox
medical prescription such as SSRI's. There are many available today
and possibly one which would not give the same side effects. Good
luck.
