Training Question: How Can I Go Home Looking Like One Would Expect A Marine To Look?

I am a 22 year old male, I weigh 150 plus lbs. For many years, I could eat and eat and not gain an ounce. Lately, I have started eating less and I am starting to put on a couple of pounds. I never really have any energy. It seems that whenever I do anything active, I get drained and tired really quick. I have tried in the past to hit the gym and dedicate myself to working out. Being in the military, I spend a lot of time working and sporadically deploying, that doesn't allow me to do that. When I am in the rear and make attempts to go to the gym there is usually a long wait on everything that you try to use. Ultimately, you don't even get a real workout.

I am stationed in Okinawa and I am due to rotate back to the states in August. Presently, I am in the Persian Gulf and I am looking into supplements that will give me good results in a decent amount of time. Basically, I want to go home looking like one would expect a Marine to look like.

I wouldn't call myself a good eater. I don't really eat meals, but I eat frequently throughout the day. I started smoking again when I got back on ship (No other social functions on ship compare to the smoke pit). I am looking for a routine that will give me great results and a diet of some sort that will allow me to maintain energy long enough to follow through with the things that I start. If you could tell help me out in finding what will work best for me and how to properly train, it would be a great help.

Answer #1

First, you should try to avoid much of the junk food you guys eat and drink. As a former marine I know how many sodas and other sugar loaded garbage you are probably eating and drinking. Second, try to eat every 3-4 hours, no snacking between meals. As far as workouts, try a whole body workout twice a week . Try to lift heavy, but with good form and do 2-3 sets per body part total. I started working out while stationed in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. I put on about 10 lbs of muscle and lost fat. Remember, the more muscle you have the higher your metabolism will be. Yours is slowing down now and that's why the weight is coming on quicker . Also, a bad diet will make you tired more often.

Good Luck,
