Training Question: One Side Of My Chest Is Smaller Than The Other. How Can I Even Them Out?

I work my chest muscles twice a week using free weights, but my right side is noticeably smaller than my left. What can I do to even them out?

Asnwer #1

I have the same exact problem as the person above. It really irritates me that my left pec is larger than my right while I consistently do even chest workouts and my pecs are at the same strength level. Can someone please help us out with some answers to this weird mutation?

Asnwer #2

Well, guys the answer seemed to be an obvious one; why not just exercise one side of your chest while taking supplements to even out your chest.

Asnwer #3

This is the stupidest thing I have heard of. Don't just work one side keep doing both. One side will always be stronger than the other. The smaller you are the more noticeable it is. Just keep on working out the same way you have and hope it gets better.

Asnwer #4

I used to have the same problem, but the bigger I got the less noticeable it was. Now you can't tell that they are different sizes.

Asnwer #5

My pecs used to be like that but as I did my free weight workouts I went down slower and farther with the smaller side.

Asnwer #6

Answer #5 is good, but also if you're using a barbell, use dumbbells instead so one arm won't do more work than the other.

Asnwer #7

Don't favor one side! Your symmetry will be for sh––. Use dumbbells and go all the way down for a deep stretch and concentrate on feeling both sides work evenly.

I had this same problem. This is usually due to un-symmetrical skeletal structure; meaning that one side of your ribs extrudes more than the other. I broke my collar bone, and that did it for me. My right ribs are slightly sunk in more than my left, therefore making my left pec look bigger. My suggestion is to be patient. As your muscle grows, it will slowly even out. Trust me, mine did. The only thing that you will notice is that one of your pecs will extrude a little more than the other, but you can't tell unless you're looking from your own eyes.

Another thing, DO NOT WORK JUST ONE PEC! This will fu–– up your body because as you work out, the one pec, your shoulder, your tricep and arm of the side of the particular pec that you are working will also get stronger and stronger, making your other side weaker and weaker. Even once your pecs are evened out, when you go to start you regular routine, the side that has not been worked will be so much weaker than the other side that you will be disgusted. Pretty soon your originally bigger pec will do all the work and will grow much faster than the once smaller pec and you will be right back where you started. So just be patient and do the exercises correctly. It WILL eventually even out. It did for me in one year. Good luck!
