Training Question: What Kind Of Workout Would A Baseball Player Need To Do?

What kind of workout would a baseball player need to do?

Question expanded by another reader.
I am a baseball player at Centenary College in Louisiana. This is a smaller, Division 1 school and a private institution. I signed a football scholarship to Arkansas, but backed out at the last minute in hopes of a more promising career in baseball. This school was my only option at the time.

The weight program here is nill. We do not have one. Being a person who knows a little about lifting, this kills me. I only know how to lift for football and really have no direction in what areas to lift for baseball. This doesn't seem to bother the coaches because they don't know enough yet about the benefits of a strength program.

My question is, would it be possible for you to tell me what lifts I should do and what areas would be most beneficial for a baseball player to lift for? Any help that you could provide for me would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
J.S.

Indeed, any ball player should use weight training to enhance their game, but I strongly believe there are limits to what a player should do. It really depends on what the strengths of a player are. For example, a player with a good deal of speed would be wasting there time trying to bulk and gain weight by doing mass building exercise. This type of player should emphasize quickness and agility exercises if that is there game. Yes, it's great to look good in a uniform but your success as a player is more important.

As far as supplements, this is where it gets tricky! Some people get great results from certain supplements and others don't. But remember weight room strength does not equate into baseball power or home run numbers! That's dependent on ones swing and the type of hitter they are.
