Training Question: What Should I Eat For Lunch On Days That I Workout?

I have a very basic workout routine. About 10 minutes cardio followed by about 30 minutes on weight machines. I workout after work, and am wondering what I should eat for lunch on days that I work out?

Thanks,
Jerri L.

I have been bodybuilding for a half a year now and the best thing to eat for lunch would be mostly carbs. Spaghetti and pizza would work fine. The carbs give you energy, getting you more pumped up for your workouts and making them more intense.

I have been body building for 14 months and gained 28 kg (61.7 pounds). This is reflective of my diet. If you want to put on mass, eat lots of carbs (around 70%) of your diet. If you want lean muscle eat more protein (i.e. 50% carbs, 45% protein and 5% fat). Before a heavy weights session I usually eat two big plates of mashed potato. Potato is full of the complex carbs you want and are recognised as one of the best sources of carbohydrates. I sometimes alternate it with pasta or rice, but I have found potato gives the best results. I'd also have to disagree with the response above. Pizza does no good for your weights, especially if it's takeaway. It is full of fat, low in fibre, high in simple sugar and low in complex carbs. If you make your own pizza, it's a different story, but stay away from the junk food if you want the best gains.

Pizza? Potatoes? Are you guys amateurs or just really stupid?! "Commercial pizza" is loaded with fat and potatoes are loaded with sugar!!! Carbohydrates are always nice to have on your plate but if you over do it by having big plates of mashed potatoes than the only thing you are going to gain is fat and/or a high blood sugar problem. Eat a variety of low calorie, low fat foods and you can't go wrong. Go high on your protein intake and medium on the carbohydrates!

The best thing for lunch is tuna and lots of it. It has 13 grams of protein and .5 grams of fat. Or chicken with no skin, about 25 grams protein and 3 or 4 grams of fat. Can't go wrong!
