Training Question: Is It Best To Work All Muscle Groups In Every Workout?

When weight lifting, is it good to workout 3 days a week hitting each body part all three days? Or, should you workout 3 days a week splitting each muscle group within the three days? I have heard both. I am looking for mostly weight loss right now. But later being more directed towards strength.

Thanks for your response,
Andrea

If you want to lose some weight right now, it's best to work out the same groups each time, but later if you're looking for some growth, it's better to train each group separately.

If you are looking to trim up, I would say every muscle everyday. For true muscle growth and strength gains you need to divide up your routine into 3 or 4 days. It is always good to mix in different routines now and then. I will throw in a light weight burn out day once every two weeks. The key to improving strength is to shock your muscles, don't allow them to fall into a routine that is always the same.

Each person is unique, you have to find what's best for you. Regardless of what others say, I've had great success training the entire upper body Mon, Wed, Fri. I continue to put on muscle weight; increase the loads; increase endurance. I weight train the legs Tue, Thu, Sat after doing an hour of aerobic workout involving the legs. I don't have tree-stump legs, but I don't want them; instead I have the strength and power I want along with endurance and agility. Be true to yourself!
