Training Tip: Giving Up Alcohol Helped Me Increase My Dumbbell Curls By 10 Pounds In Just One Month.

Hi guys,

I thought my experience might be of interest. I'm 30 year old male, 6'2", and have been working out, on and off, for the last 12 years (if you know what I mean). Currently, I've been working out the past 11 months, supplementing with whey, creatine (three one-month cycles), and various multi-mineral tablets. I was working out about 3 1/2 times a week. I say 3 1/2, because my fourth workout each week would peter out to nothing, usually because I was simply too tired. I was also struggling to push my dumbbell curls past 45 pounds.

So (for an experiment), a month ago I decided to cut out alcohol - I was never a huge drinker anyway, usually one night a week I'd go out for a few (maybe six or seven), have a good night, you know.

A month later, I'm easily working out five days a week. My curls are already up to 55 pounds, and I get a real hit from creatine and energy drinks (Red Bull, etc). I'm sure I'll hit my target of curling 65 this coming month. It's great.

Has anyone had similar experiences? I mean, obviously getting plastered regularly or drinking alcohol daily would deprive the body of minerals and vitamins needed for working out. But I was really surprised drinking alcohol just one day a week would have such an effect.

Thoughts, anyone?

Charles
