Consumer Review: All The Weight Gaining Supplements Just Flowed Through Me Like Water.

I am 20 years old 6'1 143 lbs. I have tried everything, EVERYTHING!!!!! including an increase of calorie intake and nothing!!!!! At first I was told it was my high metabolism and small body frame!!! Okay maybe true at 14. I got so fed up I started counting my calorie and protein intake. I was at a current rate of 2300 calories (give or take 100 or so). I increased that to over (3000 calories per day!!!) and still nothing. I would just sit around the house all day and eat. At about 10:30pm, when I knew my metabolism was at a low level, I would go work out (Strength Training) for about 45min to an hour. Nothing worked!!!!

I used all the weight gaining supplements. They just flowed through my body like water!!! Since age 16 until now (1 month away from 21) I have only been able to maintain a max of 145 lbs or dropping to about 138. WHAT IS WRONG? WHY CANT I GAIN THE FRIGGIN WEIGHT?

My Doctor explained to me that once you stop growing upwards you will start filling out!!! Well, I sincerely doubt I am growing any taller at 6'1 now. I have started using creatine and I have even strained to get my calorie intake up to an extreme of 3400-3800 max, varies from day to day, and still nothing!!!! Also I would like to add that I hear of professional boxers gaining 9-17 lbs over a 2 day period to make the weight class. What the HECK are they using? Someone please help. Any advice would be appreciated!!!!!!

I can identify; however, to my utter dismay, I do not have an answer. I am currently 20 years of age and have struggled with a low weight for the better part of my life. I am now becoming aggravated. Is there anything that I can do to gain the weight? Anything...? Please, if someone could offer any advice, I would be much obliged.

Thank you

I am a 26 year old female. I am 5'10" and weigh 126 lbs. My entire life I have been very skinny. I am also a personal trainer and am beginning to get into bodybuilding. I can tell you, without a doubt, that my metabolism and genetics are the hardest barrier for weight gaining. You must be consistent for months to notice change.

Most bodybuilders will tell you "protein, protein, protein. . . ". Actually, it takes more energy to burn protein than carbs. You may have a harder time if you increase your protein too much. The basics: eat every 3 hours if possible. Increase your complex carbs. Think of your meals as a 2/3 carb 1/3 protein portion. Eat right before you go to bed. Otherwise, you are starving your body for 7 - 8 hours. Do not skip meals.

Take a good multi-vitamin. If you are into supplements, I recommend creatine on 6 week cycles with a 10-14 day break between each cycle. It is not necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on supplements each month. Drink 12 ounces of water with meals. Second, dedicate yourself to a good strength conditioning program. Combination free weights and machines. Concentrate on power exercises (ie: squats, bench presses, etc). Work out 4-6 days a week for 1 hour at a time. Before working out, stretch and do about 10 min of cardio (bike, treadmill, jump rope, etc). Try to minimize your cardio because you will burn calories and increase metabolism like crazy. Maybe, only do 30 minutes of cardio,1 day a week, in addition to your 10 minute warm ups before lifting.

The higher your metabolism the more you have to eat to gain muscle weight. Make sure you are eating healthy. The more you lift the bigger you will get. Heavy weight, low reps will get you big and lower weight, lots of reps will make your muscles more defined.

I have got the answer you have been waiting for. I was 6'6" 170 lbs, I looked like a twig. No matter what I did I couldn't gain wait. So, I made up my own high calorie/high protein/low fat supplement that is relatively inexpensive. 5 Months later I am up to 210 and still remain 6% body fat. Here's the recipe and it doesn't taste too bad either:
  • 3 servings skim milk
  • 3 servings nonfat dry milk
  • 2 servings whey protein (I bought perfect protein whey-microfiltered...216 Servings for $70)
  • 1 serving nonfat chocolate syrup
  • Add water because it is thick

Its a huge drink but I managed to down 2 a day, and it worked. Approx. 950 Calories, 80 grams protein, and a couple grams of fat. Try with a serious lifting schedule and the gains will come.

I know exactly what you are feeling. I am now gaining weight. I am 19 years old and around 16 or so, when I started working out, I would get stronger but no mass would come out of it. Maybe what they say about filling out is true and it will happen. Try weight gainers until you get sick to the stomach. I did that too and did see some results. But be sure to add that on to your normal eating and don't replace it.

I have taken Creating and tons of mass gainers and guess what...NOTHING. I believe it has to do with your own metabolic system. I was 117 lbs 5' 8" and after taking the supplements I was 118 lbs. And I drank lots of water while using the supplements. The one thing I did notice was I was bench pressing a lot more...160 lbs, but I don't know if it was because of the supplements. When I stopped using the supplements, I gained weight...to 125 lbs.....not a very significant increase but it was almost immediate.

About the reference to boxers, I just started boxing and guess what..it's awesome believe me. My heart rate was 60 beats per minute and after boxing and some running it's at 49 beats per minute.. The doctors were all awed by my good heart rate. Also recent studies have shown that the more calories you take into your system, the faster your body uses up its enzymes....and your body has a preset limit to how many enzymes it can produce.

To the guy all the way at the top. The first response.

Hopefully, its gonna be alright for all of us.

I'm 21, 6'1" and right now 160lbs, but that's because I'm in college (where I'm allowed to eat more because back home I'd get into trouble eating more). The thing is I'm skinny as a muthafu––a and want to weigh 200 if possible. But I can eat three or four big Macs a day, five milkshakes, whatever...still nothing happens. I managed to break 170 once by adding peanuts (fattening) and milkshakes to my diet, but that's it. I'm taking weight gainers now and lifting, but not too much has happened yet. But here are some things I'm trying now and you might do well to try too.

1. (FIRST AND FOREMOST) UP YOUR CALORIES EVEN FURTHER. 3400 calories (max) probably isn't sh–– because I've been told that you sometimes may need 6000 calories to gain weight. I suggest eating more, but not too much fast food just for now, in addition to your weight gainers. Once my paychecks kick in again this is what I'm doing.

2. Eat at night before you go to bed: I just finished drinking a weight shake and I'm gonna drink another before I go to bed. Since your body usually slows down at night and sleep is the longest time you go without food, it might be best to do this.

3. Learn to cook: Upping food intake will get expensive. If you learn to cook things like steaks and fish, you'll have a lot of servings and leftovers that you can eat anytime.

This is what I'm trying.

I had tried everything on the planet to gain weight. I tried for ten years with no results! That is until I did two very unorthodox things.

1. I quit going to the gym and bought a dip/chin rack for $240.

2. I stopped listening to the high carb, low fat mantra.

I started out at 6'3" weighing 155lbs (ughh!). After 6 months, I weighed 180lbs! What I did was extremely simple. I worked out 1 to 2 times a week CONSISTENTLY doing only 2 sets of dips and 2 sets of pull-ups. I kept my routine short and sweet and BRUTALLY INTENSE!!! I also ate the highest fat foods 5 times a day until I turned green. I'm talking cheese lovers pizza, Big Macs and the fattiest steak I could find.

Every time I worked out, the only supplements I took were caffeine and aspirin and a quart of juice or soda or whatever was around. I worked out so intense I would feel as if I was gonna die the next day. I found for me that about 4 or 5 days off between workouts was optimal. You might think my cholesterol was 600, but I had it checked by my doctor and it was 175! Us skinny guys can get away with high fat diets.

You would also think I suffered lots of injuries due to the intensity of my workouts, but as long as you stretch before-hand (at least 1 min per muscle), you're all set. I did actually strain a muscle in my head if you can believe it, due to the intensity of my efforts on the last rep on one of my dip sets. I believe the key to gaining weight for us skinny guys is calories all the time and high intensity with lots of rest and consistency.
