Consumer Review: We Heard That Whey Powder Blocks Many Bodily Functions.

We have heard very bad things about the effects of whey powder on the body. We heard that it is a bulking agent used in a lot of foods, that it can never be eliminated from the body, and that it tends to have a major blocking effect on many bodily functions. Some say its a total waste product. Has anyone heard anything like this?

Response #1

I have been taking a mix of whey and soy proteins for under a month and I have already seen great progress. I am looking stronger then ever and have gained about ten pounds. My workouts feel a lot better. I take about 2 or 3 servings a day. It doesn't seem to have any side effects so far and I would suggest trying it out.

Response #2

Yes it does. It almost killed my brother because he couldn't urinate.

Are you sure your brother wasn't taking creatine as well as protein. As many people have told me, if you do not drink enough water with the creatine it can cause many problems such as the one you said your brother had. Also be careful to chose a reputable brand when using protein as some cheaply made proteins have many byproducts in them. Hope this helps.

Please...there is NO evidence that whey protein affects kidney function such that it keeps you from urinating! Work by Dr. Bounous has shown that whey can increase longevity in animals and recent evidence published in the Journal of Applied Physiology shows that whey has a performance-enhancing and perhaps, antioxidant activity. Do a medline search and you'll find a plethora of evidence supporting the healthful benefits of whey protein.

Response #3

Okay, let's use rational thought for a minute here. Whey protein can NEVER be eliminated from the body? What would happen to all of the people taking whey protein if it could NEVER be eliminated from the body? Obviously, they would die within days. If you continuously took something into your body and it had no way of exiting, you would simply die. I've experienced great results using whey protein, and it is backed up by many studies on the efficacy and safety of it. I think the fact that there are no massive deaths associated with the use of whey protein assures us that it CAN be eliminated.

I like the idea of a web site in which consumers can report on their experiences with various supplements, but there are some really inaccurate and bizarre accusations made here. Oh, by the way, I have recently been following the advice of health & nutrition professionals by drinking more water. However, is it possible that water is really a toxic liquid and that we are all being poisoned by drinking it? After all, I've found that I have to urinate much more often than before and my mouth isn't as dry as it used to be. This scares me and I'm really worried about these negative side effects. Has anyone heard anything like this? Should I stop drinking water altogether?

Response #4

I don't think that urinating too much is a side effects of taking supplements. It's a healthy thing because the kidneys throw out all the impurities and toxics from it so you have to drink more water to stay in a healthy condition.

First of all, since when is having a moist mouth a side-effect? Also, more frequent urinating means that your kidneys are functioning properly. Unless you are drinking out of a septic tank, do not believe anyone who tells you that water is a toxin. Our bodies are water. Would it make sense depriving your body of its most important ingredient? Use a little common sense. If you live in a place with a well that taps into your septic tank, the sewer, or a toxic waste dump, just spend a couple bucks on some jugs of bottled water.
